U.S. Dept. of Commerce - Minority Bus. Dev. Agency (MBDA) - Native Hawaiian Consultation PDF Print E-mail

The Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), a bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce, helps to create and retain U.S. jobs by promoting the growth and global competitiveness of businesses owned and operated by American Indians, Alaska Natives, African Americans, Hispanics, Hasidic Jews, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders. Through a national network of more than 40 business centers, and a wide range of domestic and international strategic partners, MBDA provides Agency clients with technical assistance and access to capital, contracts, and new markets.

In 2017, MBDA will hold a grant competition for a key component of its business center portfolio: centers that focus on American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native businesses. MBDA continuously strives to find innovative ways to support Native Hawaiian development of strong and stable economies, both domestically and in the global marketplace. In order to assess the business development needs of your community, MBDA invites you to participate in the Consultation meeting that will occur at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, 2005 Kalia Road Honolulu, HI 96815 on May 12th, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.

The purpose of these meetings are to (1) build on the government---to---government, (2) gain insight on the business development needs, challenges, and opportunities for Native Hawaiians, and (3) obtain information on topics pertinent to fostering entrepreneurial success in Native Hawaiians. Teya, a Native Alaskan small business, will be assisting MBDA in the planning and coordination of the tribal consultations. Ms. Paula Arevalo and Dr. Patricia Luna will serve as our main points of contact for these meetings. Please RSVP by email at   if you are interested in joining us.

We look forward to your input and the opportunity to further develop our relationship with your Nation.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about the consultation meetings or request for comments, please contact Dr. Patricia Luna, Sr. Event Director at 703-888-7440; or Melvin Tabilas, Legislative & Intergovernmental Affairs Specialist with MBDA at 202-482-5598 and  .
