Ke Ola Mamo Cancer Survey in Homestead Shares Results PDF Print E-mail

Waimanalo, Hawaii.  Andrea Siu and principal investigator Donna Palakiko, RN both of Ke Ola Mamo (KOM) shared with invited community homestead residents in a dinner hosted by the Native Hawaiian health systems the results of its cancer research survey done in the homestead area.


The 644 homestead homes were the target area and with over .50% identified and approached the results will provide valuable information.  Some validated outcomes will address potential solutions toward risk reduction affecting stress, heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other lifestyles affecting health related issues, dietary habits and obesity.


WHHA has partnered, supported and recruited residents to assist with the door-to-door survey.  Also, John A. Burns School of Medicine second year medical students worked with local homestead residents with the survey led by Andrea who commented, “It has been a wonderful and exciting experience.  Though hard, it’s worthwhile,”
