 Waimanalo, Hawaii

Waimanalo Hawaiian Homes Association (WHHA) submitted written comments to the recent Regulation Identifier No. 1090-AB05 - Procedures for Reestablishing a Formal Government-to-Government Relationship with the Native Hawaiian Community on December 30, 2015.

"It was very interesting and challenging, but the comments submitted reflected the majority of the homestead residents and WHHA with regards to federal recognition and its processes," commented WHHA President Kamakana Aquino.

Aunty Moana Akana, WHHA Secretary agreed with Kamakana, "It was very challenging in composing a comment that best voiced the homesteaders in Waimanalo."

Several talk story sessions that included former U.S. Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa provided excellent background and encouragement to Waimanalo homesteaders in seriously considering and submitting their individual written comments.  Similar sessions were held at Papakolea, Wai'anae, Nanakuli, Kapolei, Panaewa-Keaukaha, Kona, Maui, Moloka'i and Kaua'i.

Copies of the DOI Proposal and written comments will be available this Monday during the WHHA Welcome Dinner while supplies lasts.
